Magazine design: My Favourite Artist

Services:

This editorial design project was a university assignment aimed at creating a magazine of my favourite artist. The catch was that there were no specific design style requirements, apart from the fact that it needed to be 18 pages long with a cover and a back. Instead the chosen artist would dictate the style, so that when you pick up the magazine you’ll instantly get a sense of who it is about. My teacher made this brief it in a way that would encourage me to explore styles that I’m not used to and get out of my comfort zone.

The Mission:

I chose Kim Nam Joon, professionally known as RM, as my favourite artist. His music blends raw emotion with imperfection, always reminding us to be human first before making art. To capture that, the design uses bold and rough type treatment for titles and quotes with expressive layouts to capture that rawness, whilst using clean and modern bodycopy to keep things grounded and readable.

The Results:

I managed to step out of my usual style, explore and create something new and unique. The design perfectly captures the spirit of the artist whilst creating an enjoyable and engaging experience for the reader. Pages flow smoothly, keeping the reader exited and surprised with the turn of each page
