Take on Tarantino’s: Kill Bill

This project was aimed at designing a movie poster for one of Quentin Tarantino’s movies. The challenge was to  capture the atmosphere of the entire movie with a single image, through the use of colour, typography composition and form.
My choice was Kill Bill. After watching the movie I’ve gathered style words that would guide my design: tense, striking, in your face

As the movie had a lot of Japanese influences, I went to research different graphical styles that are present in Japan. I was deeply inspired by Japanese traditional woodblock printing Ukiyo-e. In particular the striking portrait works and soft, muted colours. I also took a lot of elements from manga, mostly the line art and compositions.
